Just six hours ago Pro Football talk reported that the Dolphins and Jerome Baker were not in any contract talks. Well, the Dolphins and Jerome Baker have struck a 3 year $39 million dollar deal just a few minutes ago per Jerome Bakers agent Drew Rosenhaus.
Jerome Baker already is locked in for this season per his initial rookie deal when he was drafted and signed as part of the Miami Dolphins 2018 Draft class.
Jerome Baker will lead the linebacker corps as he becomes the de facto leader while already being the communicator. This extension comes on the heel of a productive 2020 season which he tallied 112 tackles and 7 sacks, with one of his biggest coming against Patrick Mahomes.
The Dolphins smartly and quietly make Jerome Baker the 7th highest paid Linebacker as others such as RoQuan Smith, Fred Warner, Darious Leonard and Tremaine Edmunds.
In a season where the salary cap shrunk and the 2021 FA cap expected to be higher, in Hindsight this is a great extension for the Dolphins and Baker as the newly paid LB stays a Dolphins for the foreseeable future and the Dolphins lock Baker on a cost friendly extension.
