Summer Scouting Report: Isaiah Spiller

In an age where healthy stars often decide to pass on bowl games for business decisions, Texas A&M Runningback Isaiah Spiller played through theirs with a fractured toe last season.

The Aggies RB ended up a semifinalist in 2020 for the Doak Walker Award (the nation’s best RB). Despite being sometimes overshadowed by his teammate Ainias Smith, I think it will be Spiller that ends up being the better Pro. The Aggies duo is a talented one, like the 2 Tarheel backs last year (Javonte Williams and Michael Carter), I expect draft love for both. It really just depends on your team’s needs. If you need a smaller, quicker back, Ainias may be what you’re looking for, but if you want an all-around work horse Isaiah Spiller should be your guy.

It was hard finding weaknesses in Spiller’s game, he reminded me of Edgerrin James at the University of Miami. He may not have the elite traits to be a top 5 pick like Edge was, but if Spiller can have another strong year showcasing his versatility, and improving on his game, I think he could be a Top 50 pick in 2022.
