The Thunder began this year’s Summer League by grinding out a 76-72 victory over Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons.
Unfortunately Thunder rookie and NBA Draft lottery pick Josh Giddey had to exit the game early with a left ankle injury, but not before throwing down a dunk in half court offense. We wish him a fast, and speedy recovery. The Thunder were led by Theo Maledon who put together a 15 point, 5 rebound, and 11 assist night, followed by rookie Jeremiah Robinson Earl who probably took an early lead for Thunder fan favorite chipping in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Earl seemed to always be in the right place at the right time on either side of the court. Fellow rookie Aaron Wiggins showed that he also was a steal for the Thunder on draft night, showing good footwork around the rim and athletic tip ins. Wiggins finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
The Thunder found themselves in a hole early, but thanks to some bench help were able to crawl out and squeak out the win. Their next Summer League bout takes place Wednesday July 11th at 7 pm.
