In his freshman season Johnson redshirted. Appearing in all 13 games as a redshirt freshman in 2018, He registered 13 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and forced a fumble as a backup.
While recording a trio against UAB, Johnson pummeled the Blazers for a strip sack, forced fumble, and his first ever career sack.
Returning to the aggies in 2021, Johnson was considered a draft prospect for 2021. He returns to help bolster a strong defense.
He’ll be playing with extra motivation, as his draft stock depends entirely on how well he plays. He looks to improve and fully start this season with iDL DeMarvin Leal and EDGE Micheal Clemons.
Players like Johnson are highly sought after, a hybrid EDGE who can move & cover with improvements every year. He’s an all around EDGE/OLB.
In a shortened 2020 season Johnson tallied 29 pressures and four sacks in 2020.
Flashing some solid pass-rush ability in 2020, Johnson struggled against rushing attacks illustrated his limitations as a run stuffer. He could be more of a backup designated pass-rusher in the NFL.
With some starting experience under his belt, Johnson may be on the rise alongside Michael Clemons, who will draw attention on the other side. Johnson’s best fit in the NFL could come as a 3-4 outside linebacker, a good fit for Brian Flores and this defense.
Miami will need some extra depth at pass rusher next year.
Johnson’s name is not out there yet, but his name could be buzzing once college football starts.
Currently he is projected to go in the 6th round; however, if he keeps improving and churns out a productive season he could hear his name as a late day 2, early day 3 pick.
Only time will tell.
