It’s the time of the year where I try to predict what Texas’ record will look like by the end of the season. Come December I will most likely look back at this article and say to myself “What the hell were you thinking”. However, I’m still going to make my prediction for the 2021 Texas Longhorns season going game by game.
Louisiana Lafayette @ Texas
This game will be a lot tougher then many people think. However, Texas has the advantage in the trenches on both sides of the ball and I think that is what will ultimately give us the edge. Texas struggles early, but pulls away in the second half.
17-45 Texas (1-0)
Texas @ Arkansas
This is a game that has me a little worried. I think Sam Pittman is a really good coach and is going to bring Arkansas back to national prominence. However, If we have a big lead in week 1 Sark isn’t going to dive to deep into his playbook against ULL. Meaning Pittman’s defensive staff won’t know what tricks Sark has up his sleeve. I expect Texas to win this game decisively in Fayetteville.
35-21 Texas (2-0)
Rice @ Texas
Rice has been Texas’ cupcake game the past couple years and that continues this year. Texas wins big.
10-59 Texas (3-0)
Texas Tech @ Texas
The last time these two teams met Texas came back from down 15 with under 2 minutes to go in the game to force overtime and eventually win. I don’t expect it to be that close this time around.
20-42 Texas (4-0)
Texas @ TCU
Ah the Horned Frogs. Gary Patterson for some reason always has his team playing like Alabama when they’re playing Texas. I think Sark’s offensive mind vs Patterson’s defensive schemes will be exciting to watch, but I think Sark finds a way to squeak out of Fort Worth with a win.
31-24 Texas (5-0)
Oklahoma @ Texas (Cotton Bowl Dallas, Texas)
This will be Sark’s first real test at Texas. The Texas, OU rivalry always has a little more meaning when the teams play at the Cotton Bowl. I think OU gets the upper hand in this first matchup.
38-35 Oklahoma (5-1)
Oklahoma State @ Texas
Gundy and the feisty Cowboys come to town after Texas suffers its first loss of the season. Sark and Coach PK use the OU game as a teaching opportunity and come back strong a week later. Texas cruises to a win.
20-49 Texas (6-1)
Texas @ Baylor
Dave Aranda has his team ready to play when the Longhorns come to town. It’ll be a close game at half, but Sark and company pull away late. Texas wins in Waco.
42-10 Texas (7-1)
Texas @ Iowa State
This is the game I keep going back and forth on. Part of me thinks this is Matt Campbell’s best team he’s ever had. However, the other part of me thinks that the Texas players will have a better grasp on the offensive and defensive schemes/playbook this late in the season. I will be putting on my burnt orange glasses for this game, as I have Texas coming out of Ames with the win.
31-27 Texas (8-1)
Kansas @ Texas
I mean there isn’t much to say about this game. Texas wins big.
6-52 Texas (9-1)
Texas @ West Virginia
Again nothing really to say about this one. I think WV will be in the bottom three of the Big 12. Texas cruises to a win.
48-13 Texas (10-1)
Kansas State @ Texas
I love what Chris Klieman is doing in Manhattan, but with the Wildcats on the road, Texas takes care of business.
20-41 Texas (11-1)
Texas @ Oklahoma (Big 12 Championship Game)
Can you believe it? Steve Sarkisian in his first season as Texas head coach ends up in Dallas. I don’t think it’s crazy to say this is actually a possibility. Texas matches up against undefeated Oklahoma and takes it down to the wire. In the end “Dicker the Kicker” hits a field goal to win the game. As Texas ends OU’s streak of Big 12 championships. Your 2021 Big 12 Champions are The Texas Longhorns!
45-42 Texas (12-1)
I honestly don’t think a Big 12 Championship Game appearance in year 1 is out of reach. I also could see this team going 8-4. There are really too many variables at play here. I think if Sark starts out 5-0, against teams Texas should beat, we will make it to the Conference Championship Game. Let me know what you think Texas’ record will be. Am I crazy? 9 more days to kickoff everyone!
