Are the Cincinnati Bengals already being doubted heading into 2022?

Can last year’s AFC conference champion capitalize on the momentum and win next year’s Super Bowl?

A little over a month ago, the Cincinnati Bengals were the darlings of the NFL, from media and fan perspectives. Their long-awaited postseason win drought was not only over after 31 years, the team was also the biggest underdog story in sports prior to St. Peter’s becoming the darlings of March Madness

Cincinnati failed in its third attempt to win a Super Bowl, but it appeared they gained a ton of respect along the way. The Bengals looked like a team that could challenge for the AFC Championship again next season. But have the good vibes and enthusiasm surrounding the Bengals evaporated already?

The Cincinnati Bengals are being overlooked by NFL Oddsmakers.
A lower place than among the Super Bowl 57 favorites.

Eight teams in NFL history, and one in the last 28 years, have returned to the Super Bowl the following season after losing. Vegas seems to be well aware of the trend of futility. The bookmakers apparently aren’t convinced the beloved Bengals of January 2022 are a prime contender to win Super Bowl 57.  The latest futures odds from Caesars Sportsbook don’t have the Bengals top 10 to win Super Bowl 57.

They are tied with the Tennessee Titans and the Baltimore Ravens at +2500. The Bengals are tied with the Ravens for the sixth-best odds to win the AFC at +1200.

The Bengals haven’t gotten worse since their Super Bowl loss. Their biggest weakness to address was the offensive line, and they did so in stellar fashion, with three significant free-agent additions, including the latest addition of tackle La’El Collins. The team did not have any major losses in free agency, either.

It seems like these Bengals have a good chance to get back to the AFC Championship Game again and possibly the Super Bowl, considering that the explosive offense will remain mostly intact and the blocking has already improved. There are some tweaks needed on the defense, but overall, the roster is certainly good enough to ensure that Cincinnati remains a contender if many of the key performers stay healthy.

Where the Cincinnati Bengals are found in the AFC odds

The Bills (+400) and the Chiefs (+450) are the favorites to win the AFC. That is no surprise, especially with Buffalo adding Von Miller and the Chiefs acquiring JuJu Smith-Schuster. The AFC road to the Super Bowl goes through Kansas City, anyhow. The Broncos are third at +850 after acquiring Russell Wilson.

The former Seahawks QB has not advanced his team to a conference championship game in the past seven seasons. Plus, you could give Cincinnati the full advantage over Denver at running back and wide receiver. Denver may be better defensively, but these teams don’t seem too far apart in terms of conference winning championship potential.

The Chargers are also at +850, and their defense looks fearsome, but their starting QB has no playoff experience. The Browns are at +900 after acquiring Deshaun Watson.

He will certainly have a better shot to win playoff games than he did in Houston, but the fact is, he still has to prove it. Watson has one career playoff win. Baltimore is even with Cincinnati at +1200 to win the AFC, but Lamar Jackson has certainly not shown he is capable of leading a team on a deep playoff run yet. The Bengals are at the exact same odds after winning the AFC Championship last season.

We certainly are not judging these other AFC teams purely by the quarterback position only, and any of the other AFC contenders positioned ahead of Cincinnati could make a good run to a conference title.

What about the Bengals compared to the NFC?

But haven’t the Bengals earned more respect in terms of being a favorite?

You could make a good case their odds should at least match those of Denver and Los Angeles. Plus, the Bengals are tied with the Titans in the odds to win Super Bowl 57. Yes, the Titans acquired Robert Woods, but there is no way I would give any team led by Ryan Tannehill the same projected chances as the defending AFC champions.

Among the NFC teams ahead of Cincinnati in current odds to win Super Bowl 57 is San Francisco at +1400. The 49ers should not be so far ahead of the Bengals considering they’ll be starting an inexperienced quarterback next season. Of all the teams in the top 10 odds, the Niners have the shakiest outlook at the most important position.

The most head-scratching team to actually be ahead of the Bengals is the Dallas Cowboys at +1800. Dallas may have actually gotten worse this offseason with some of their key personnel losses in free agency. The Cowboys have won one playoff game in the last seven years and lost in the Wild Card last season.

Place a bet on the Bengals right now

You could indeed make very good cases that the odds for many of the teams ahead of the Bengals deserve those projected outlooks to win the AFC or Super Bowl 57. But I would certainly take Cincinnati over Baltimore, Tennessee, or Dallas.

That said, the Bengals are a good value in NFL futures right now to win the AFC/Super Bowl next season. We recommend strongly considering such wagers right now, especially on the odds to win the AFC Championship again.

It is a knee-jerk reaction when many NFL observers make predictions on the next season based on a past one. The current state of the Cincinnati roster, however, showcases the Bengals are certainly capable of contending for the conference.

Baltimore Ravens Offensive Line: How Do They Compare

Welcome to a take on the Baltimore Ravens Status Quo on the Offensive Line. Enjoy!

The Ravens offensive line has been a popular topic as of late. Throughout recent history the Ravens have had one of the better offensive lines in the NFL. But how does this years offensive line compared to years prior? Lets take a look.

The Ravens Offensive Line

Week in, week out, they are the first to be blamed and the last to fame. As a fan base, we need to do an in-depth look at our previous and current “Status Quo” of the offensive line. With that being said, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of things.

Some say that the Ravens’ current offensive line is good. Others will say that they are bad. Some of us roll with a happy medium of good enough. It’s tough to properly grade all these big fellas in a world where everyone is focused on skill positions, but thankfully, some people at Pro Football Focus and Pro Football Reference have us covered.

The Present

Left Tackle: Alejandro Villanueva

Ranked 57/81 in the Tackle position
Marked as a 62.7 Graded Yellow Player

This guy is a solid player game in and game out. Yes, unfortunately, he has gotten beaten in the pass pro a lot more than I’d like to admit, but the guy is always looking to make improvements when he can. Coming to Baltimore has opened his versatility more, in my opinion, considering he was going to be placed at right tackle before the Ronnie Stanley injury. The transition to right tackle was a little rough, but it was also full of potential. The team moving him back to his most comfortable position ended up working out.

Left Guard: Ben Powers

Ranked 25/78 in the Guard Position
Marked as a 68 Graded Green Player

Ben Powers has been a giant question mark of “Can he fill in this weird left guard void?” since Bradley Bozeman moved over to center. Don’t get me wrong, he is a quality player and has been proving me wrong week in and out. The way he tends to move around to get in crucial blocks has been quite impressive. Will he keep the “this all game thing” going, or will there be more rotations?

Center: Bradley Bozeman

Ranked 10/38 in the Center Position
Marked as 72.1 Graded Green Player

Everyone should know by now that Bozeman is my favorite offensive lineman on this current Ravens team. Outside of a few bad snaps (which happens from time to time) he’s been an excellent guy in the communications job, along with getting in all of his assigned blocks. I have been praying to the football gods that he stays Raven for a long time.

Right Guard: Kevin Zeitler

Ranked 17/78 in the Guard Position
Marked as 70.9 Graded Green Player

Mr. Kevin Zeitler. A guy we only wish we had sooner to fill the large shoes left by the retirement of future Hall of Famer Marshal Yanda. A guy who has now played for 3/4 AFC North teams (if I’m not mistaken) and excels in the right guard spot. His footwork, hand in the cadence/snap count, and ability to make adjustments at whims notice are uncanny. Sometimes, he does get beat but not very often. Just get his replacement ready to fill his shoes whenever he goes to retire (hopefully as a Raven).

Right Tackle: Patrick Mekari

Ranked 44/81 in Tackle Position
Marked as 68.4 Graded Green Player

Patrick Mekari has been at the top of my list for this team, starting center or guard. It hurt a little seeing him not a starter in either position at first, but when Stanley went down early in the season & seeing him take over right tackle with huge success was a pleasant surprise. Later on he got hurt himself. His presence was missed while away. The game vs. the Bears, though, did show that the rust needs to be shaken off.

This lineup listed above is good enough to get this Ravens team to the playoffs & into a bit of a post-season run. You can take whatever you want out of the stats you can find, the film, & anything else to form your own opinion. But at the end of the day, this is a solid unit, even with a 68.42 grading average.

2019 Offensive Line

  • Left Tackle: Ronnie Stanley
    • 88.5 Graded Blue Player
  • Left Guard: Bradley Bozeman
    • 63.4 Graded Yellow Player
  • Center: Matt Skura/Patrick Mekari
    • Matt: 68.7 Graded Green Player
    • Patrick: 70.5 Graded Green Player
  • Right Guard: Marshal Yanda
    • 86.6 Graded Blue Player
  • Right Tackle: Orlando Brown Jr
    • 72 Graded Green Player

The 2019 14-2 Baltimore Ravens offensive line was an average of 74.95 graded team. They were roughly 6.53 points better than the current team (as of somewhere in between weeks 11 & 12 of the 2021 season). There was some bolstering but also some regression in other areas, as we all know. We had all pros in Ronnie, Marshal, and Zues Jr.

2020 Offensive Line Grading

  • Left Tackle: Zues Jr
    • Graded as a 76.5
  • Left Guard: Bradley Bozeman
    • PFF Grade 64.3
  • Center: Matt Skura
    • PFF Grade 50.2
  • Right Guard: Ben Powers
    • PFF Grade 59.4
  • Right Tackle: DJ Fluker
    • PFF Grade 63.8

We can also ask how did the team have an 11-5 record with this offensive line? Let me remind you of these things. Ronnie went down the first time. Matt Skura, Trystan Colon, & Patrick Mekari were all competing for the starting center position. Tyre Phillips was also in the right guard rotation. The 2020 COVID season was bizarre and mildly successful for a whole lot of offensive line shuffles.

Anyways, as we look forward to the remaining weeks in the 2021 season, note that our current starting lineup can be just as good as the 2019 offensive line. Give it time and let it grow. Even though times look tough with the recent injury report, the big guys up front are communicating more and getting that chemistry they need to get the job done. Thanks to them, the Baltimore Ravens can end the 2021 season as a 12-5 or 13-4 team.

Baltimore Ravens and RAS

This next part will focus on the Ravens. As you guys continue to read through this series you will see the connect with RAS and teams drafting strategies are not as easy as saying all teams want to get bigger, faster, stronger. While yes that’s true in a way, but its not that simple.

See my previous parts:

Las Vegas Raiders | San Francisco 49ers | Indianapolis Colts

Teams have different things they are looking for athletically. The Ravens as you will see are kind of different.

Quarterback:

Since Eric DeCosta took over for Ozzie Newsome he has drafted one quarterback. Trace McSorley in 2019. McSorley did it all and came away with a pretty good score of 8.29. But with such limited information there is not much to go off. Ozzie Newsome did draft Lamar Jackson the year before Decosta took over. So you might want to keep an eye on athletic quarterbacks, but I don’t see it as a definitive.

Running backs:

In DeCosta’s three draft classes he has drafted two running backs and one fullback. They drafted Justice Hill in 2019 and J.K. Dobbins in 2020. The lone fullback they drafted is Ben Mason in 2021. In regards to the running backs Hill did put up a score of 9.33. He did not do any agility testing. His speed and explosion numbers were elite. in Dobbins case he did no testing except for height and weight. Interestingly enough both are about 5’9 1/2, although I don’t think that means anything in particular. They both also had over 20 reps on the bench. Again I don’t know if it means much with a small sample size, but interesting none the less.

With Mason he is almost tight end size at 6’3 246. He had great explosion numbers and just ok to average speed and agility numbers. Since he is the only fullback drafted again we can’t take too much from it.

Tight ends:

DeCosta has not drafted a single tight end in his three years, so nothing to go off on here.

Wide Receivers:

In three short years DeCosta has drafted six receivers. He has drafted two receivers in each of the last three drafts. Marques Brown and Miles Boykins in 2019, Devin Duvernay and James Proche in 2020 and Rashod Bateman and Tylan Wallace in 2021. The six of them have an average ras score of 6.93. Wallace and Proche both scored on the low end, both below 5. Three of the other four scored 7.87 or higher. Marques Brown did not do any testing. One thing I can find in common with all the receivers is they scored very fast 10 yard splits. So that looks to be something that the Ravens find important with their receivers.

Pure speed also seems to be of importance to DeCosta. Four of the receivers drafted ran 4.5 or better. Three of those four ran 4.43 or faster. There is no 40 yard dash time on James Proche. Another thing is they do not seem to like exceptionally tall receivers. Outside of Boykins none of the receivers DeCosta has drafted were over 6’0. Four of them were 5’11 or shorter. The agility numbers are all over the place so it seems like the Ravens have no preference there. As for explosive drills they seem to like guys who are at least average or above. Wallace was the only one that tested poorly in those drills.

The weight of the players also stands out. Outside of Marques Brown every receiver weights 190+. Even Brown now is listed at 180. One final thing that stands out about the receivers drafted is arm length. Outside of Proche they all have 30″ arms or longer, and even Proche was close at 29 3/4. Bateman and Boykins both have 33″ arms. It could be said that they do not like receivers with arms that are short at least relatively to their bodies.

Offensive line:

This position is also of interest in regards to the type of players DeCosta has drafted. He has drafted four offensive linemen in his three drafts, and all four are guards. He drafted Ben Powers in 2019, Tyre Phillips and Ben Bredeson in 2020, and finally Ben Cleveland in 2021. Average out their ras scores and you get a very average 5.95. That is mostly due to Cleveland who brings a score of 9.63, Powers and Phillips both scored under 5, Bredeson did not do any testing. Even if you go back to some of Newsome’s recent drafts the offensive linemen did not score high. Guys like Orlando Brown for example.

DeCosta seems to like big strong guys. All four of his drafted guys were 6’4+ and all are above 307. Cleveland and Phillips are 330+. Explosion and agility scores are not important at all for DeCosta and the Ravens. Bredeson did no testing at all. All three that tested were either average or below average. On the agility tests all three tested poorly. Phillips and Cleveland were the only ones who ran the 40 and both were on opposite ends. Bench Press does not seem important either; two of the three could only did 20 and 21 reps respectively.

Defensive line:

In his three drafts DeCosta has drafted three defensive linemen. Daylon Mack in 2019 and Justin Madubuike and Broderick Washington in 2020. Washington did no testing outside of the bench press. Mack scored a 4.16 RAS and Madubuike had a 9.32. It does seem the Ravens prefer shorter/squattier defensive linemen. All three are between 6’1-6’2. Also both Mack and Madubuike had great 10 yard splits, identical 1.73’s. Both also did well on the bench with over 30 reps. Although it is a small sample size we can say they like their defensive linemen on the shorter size and quick fast 10 yard splits.

Edge defenders:

The Ravens have drafted three edge defenders/defensive ends in DeCosta’s reign; Jaylon Ferguson in 2019, Odafe Owah and Daelin Hayes in 2021. The three’s average ras score comes out to a 7.77 which is pretty solid. Ferguson is on the bigger size at 270 where both Owah and Hayes are in the 250’s. All three also have good arm length between 33-34″.

As for RAS Ferguson had the lowest score with a 5.46, Owah was a freak with a 9.92, and Hayes with a solid 7.93. Ferguson had average scores across the board except for agility which were poor. Owah was elite on all testing while Hayes was above average on everything. The number are all over the place, so there is not enough information to get a good idea on what the Ravens look for at the position out side of decent arm length and that they do not emphasize agility drills and they like guys who have at least decent speed.

Linebackers:

DeCosta has drafted only two linebackers in his three drafts. He has drafted both Patrick Queen and Malik Harrison both in 2020. Queen had a RAS of 7.99, which was mostly brought down by his height and weight. Harrison scored a 9.42. Both of them had great scores in explosion. Both of them had broad jumps of 10’2″ or higher. Harrison had the slower 40 but still ran a solid 4.66. Queen did not do agility drills but Harrison did and put up an elite 3 cone time of 6.83 with an average short shuttle of 4.32. Also their 10 yard splits where a 1.64 and 1.58, those are above average to elite.

In regards to linebackers it seems size isn’t important to them, but explosiveness, 10 yard dash, and 40 time as well seem important to them.

Defensive backs:

Eric DeCosta has drafted 4 defensive backs since he became GM in 2019. He has drafted three corners and one Marauder (safety). The average of their four RAS scores is 6.95, which is a little surprising you would think it would have been higher. DeCosta drafted Iman Marshall in 2019, Geno Stone in 2020, and Shaun Wade and Brandon Stephens in 2021. All three corners are 6’1 or just under and all are 192 pounds plus, and 2 out of the three are over 200.

So it can be said that the Ravens front office likes larger corner. Again a theme that seems to play out with all their draft picks is that agility scores are not important to them. Marshall and Stephens had average to poor scores. Shaun Wade did not participate in agility drills. Explosion also seems to be a test they do not find important, of the three corners none have similar scores. Their scores run the gamut from poor to great and in-between. This is one position where the 10-yard splits may not be important. Brandon Stephens had a poor 10-yard split of 1.62. All of their 40 times are 4.53 or faster. So it can be said they like their corners to have at least decent speed.

To Stone the only marauder of the group, his overall speed is decent, and he has decent size at 5’10 207, but had poor explosion grades. This falls in line with the rest of the defensive backs, in that DeCosta does not seem to care about these tests.

Final Thoughts:

The Ravens are very peculiar in regards to their draft picks and athletic testing. It does not seem like they put a huge emphasis on it outside of certain tests. They seem to find 10-yard splits important almost across the board. They like freaky athletic linebackers, big physical corners, Shorter defensive linemen, Big strong offensive linemen, and DeCosta also seems to prefer solid built, but not overly tall wide receivers with good speed.

Ravens Report: Week 1 Review/Week 2 Preview – WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot

Welcome to a new edition of the ATB Ravens Report featuring a 2 part setup looking at the MNF Review & a Preview of SNF. Enjoy!

Welp, Monday Night Football has come & gone. Vacation is & has been over for almost a week now. Thursday Night Football has happened along with Friday Night Lights. And as most of us in the W2 world the first week back to work is well not the greatest. Originally had planned on this being written and released on Wednesday but… it didn’t.

Raiders fans were probably still partying till Wednesday night in celebration on their win, while we all bitched & moaned & wondering what the team is going to do next. Well with it being this late in the week we’ll mix the Week One Review with the Week 2 Preview. Will also try to make this kinda short & sweet. With that being said….

It was a tight game from the start on Monday.

Both Defenses were playing their hearts out and offenses were struggling to find their rhythm. We expected the Ravens’ D to shine and do what they do best. Yes they had some major and minor hiccups but most teams do in this day and age. It’s just the nature of it.

Also bear with me as I do my best to remember some key good things from the game as we go into the “constructive fan criticism” first.

Watching the defense do it’s thing even without Marcus Peters was fun to watch for the most part. Secondary was doing its thing. Averette & Humphrey were taking names most of the night at least in my opinion. Linebackers staying on top of their assignments, & DL stuffing the run…

But to quote one of my wife’s friend’s catchphrase “what the hairy hell?!” Where was most of the pass rush with the 5+ sacks or the LB/DB’s with the at least 2-3 INTs that we were expecting based off all the offseason & training camp hype?! It was no where I tell you.

Ok, I lied. The team got three Sacks, 5 TFL, & 1 INT. Along with 69 Total Tackles & 50 Solo. Which I honestly can’t be mad with.

What I can be mad at is the fact that going into overtime they let a wide open receiver score the game sealing touchdown. But I’m going little too far into it with that.

Queen, Humphrey, & Oweh all stayed on FIRE!

Going into some individual stuff again, it was absolutely amazing watching these three compete on such a high level. Star CB Marlon “Fruit Punch” Humphrey was just continuing to make hisself a house hold name in the MNF opener. 9 Total Tackles, 6 Solo, & 1 Pass Deflect, along with just keeping almost everyone he lined up against on lock down was a show to see! You literally can’t ask for a better guy on the team.

Patrick Queen is literally our modern day version of Ray Lewis. I honestly think the team got that void filled, outside of the amazing vocal leadership, with this young man. He was all over the field, stats similar to Marlon’s are as followed: 9 Total, 6 Solo, 1 Sack, 1 TFL, & 1 QB Hit. Top of the defensive leader board right here.

Odafe Oweh has the feel good story of the night in my book on the Ravens’ defense. Went from NO SACKS in college at Penn State to his first ever recorded sack in the NFL with 10 seconds left of the first half he was able to accomplish just that. If I could figure out how to put the team’s tweeted video of it on here I would, but just want to say it was incredible. His stat line isn’t as well put together as his more experienced teammates but oh well. Take a quick glance if you would. 2 Total, 2 Solo, 1 Sack, 1 TFL, & 2 QB Hits.

Just take a good look at the picture below or to the side cause you all know what we’re gonna talk about…

Look… I’m trying not to rub my temples together or go grab a bottle of booze but what in the double #@%$ happened?! Breathe, just breathe…

We’ve been expecting a good, strong, & effective offensive line this entire process going into Monday outside of the question mark at LG. Now we have questions everywhere. What are we gonna do long term at LG, LT(I’ll get to that soon), & RT.

Personally I expect to stick with 3/5 of the current starters but let’s wait a second to get into it, and I don’t want to get too far into this because of the preview side of the article. Lamar was sacked a total of 3 times and hit a total of 7 times. The pressure was put on our precious QB and there wasn’t much for him to do…

Or was there? While watching the entire offense all night there were times I thought to myself “Where is the Lamar that we know would take off when the pocket is collapsing and/or doesn’t have anyone to dump it off too?” Is LJ8, Roman, & Urban all sticking to a traditional pocket passer roll now?

We all have tons of questions for the Offense.

To answer some of the questions in the previous paragraph, I would say yes but no. LJ8 is about proving the narrative on him wrong. Everyone wants to make the RB playing QB joke still to this date but when you have a QB like Lamar, you let him turn on the gas and do what he does best. This season is still about proving critics wrong. Even though he had a 56.1 QBR, it was still better than Carr’s 50.3. LJ8 has a total stat line of 19/30 attempts for 235 yards, 1 TD(Passing), 12 rushing attempts, 86 yards, long of 28 yards. That’s good but not exactly what everyone was expecting. And I could guess what you all were looking for but anyways…

I’d like to also ask, Is Hollywood Brown & Sammy Watkins an official WR like good tag team? According to what I’ve seen on the TV and on the official stats, I would say yes! Sammy had a total of 4 Receptions, 96 Yards, Long of 49, & 8 Targets. Half is better than lower but he made out well with that game, almost 100 dang yards in such a short time. Marquise Brown went 6 for 6 of carries/targets, 69(Nice) yards, 1 TD on a nice extended play, & a long of 21. Honestly this makes me happy, & adding Rashod Bateman in a few weeks will make this WR group into something special.

But at the end of the night with everything being said the team couldn’t get the job done & put a tally in the win column…

Moving onto Week 2.

Or at least we all hope. This Sunday at 8:20 on NBC, The Baltimore Ravens will host the Kansas City Chiefs at M&T Bank Stadium. This will be the Ravens’ home opener & will expect a lot of excited fans too finally be back in the stands. I know if I lived in MD, I’d be making it to tailgate & have fun but yeah.

Anyways, there are still a lot to topic & questions going into this game following the loss in Vegas. Who is starting where? Is the Offense & Defense ready? What’s happening & why does this feel like 2015?

Just breathe. OK?

Yes there’s a lot of injuries, ok. Tyre Phillips & Chris Westry both placed on IR officially. And I’ll just post a picture of the Ravens’ injury report from today courtesy of the team social media & PR teams if you haven’t seen already.

Ronnie Stanley, Marlon Humphrey, Hollywood Brown, and so on & so on. Looking at this is painful. I’m not even gonna lie, lots of the active roster including the whole starting running back room is the 2015 feeling I was talking about before.

But there are some “bright sides” to this madness. The next man up mentality. That’s it, I’m being Harbaugh right now. With the Offensive Line being a little banged up and without a lot of chemistry, I expect to move forward and do well. What we could possibly be looking at going into Sunday’s match up could go like this:

  • LT: Alejandro Villanueva
  • LG: Ben Powers/Cleveland
  • C: Bradley Bozeman
  • RG: Kevin Zeitler
  • RT: Patrick Mekari

The reason I put Powers & Cleveland both on there is due to the fact of the big question mark still there. Anyways, Will this do the job? Maybe, because Powers was set to be a starting LG before Boze ultimately ended up winning the spot in 19 & 20 if not mistaken. Mekari is still proving himself to be a top versatile Lineman that’s able to step into any role & do it well. AV would be making his way back to his natural spot, so self explanatory. Bozeman will clean up his act and kick ass/take names in week 2, simple as that.

Believe in the OL!

Will the defense show up?

Marlon will be back in time & be ready for the game. I hope at least. The Ravens organization/team still has a good defense in general on hand. I’m expecting the pass rush/run stuff to be better equipped for Sunday night at home. Expect a big day out of Brandon Williams, Oweh, & Queen again. Also be prepared for AA, Elliott, & Clark to do some damage, in a good way, coming up.

Predictions as far as stats go will be as following:

73 Tackles, 6 TFL, 3 Sacks, 2 INTS, and a good handful of Pass Deflects or QB Hits.

Are these numbers realistic? I’m not sure to be honest. Ask someone who is more stat heavy to double check me.

LJ8 goes back to being LJ8

Yes, you all read that right. LJ8, John Harbaugh, Greg Roman, & James Urban along with the entire offense sat down, watched film, & figured out a good game plan. They’ll let Lamar & Co go out to have fun and do what they do best. That’s what they did when they went 14-2 & 11-5.

Listen I know that the RB Room & new OL is causing the O to simplify things & not let the team go full on but hey things are slowly but surely get better.

Expect to see LJ to connect with Sammy & Marquise on their own set of TDs. Let Murray or Williams get in the end zone with their own scores. Also He may walk/run his own score in. Who knows?

All we do know is that this will be a good and close game…

Yes, even with the scores predicted above & defense doing work, this game will be close. I’m talking like 28-26 close in favor of the Ravens. Andy Reid/Pat Mahomes & Co are coming to town with fight in their eyes. Ravens fans, at the game, you’ll have to all get loud and rowdy. At home, The Fock has to send all kinds of positive vibes.

Have patience, drink plenty of good fluids before & after, but remember to enjoy the game. Chose violence fore the hours of the game.

Quick Wrap Up.

Whew! Longer than expected but hope everyone enjoyed the piece. I know we moved on quick & suddenly but it’s time to nut up or shut up for game day!

Remember to follow everyone & everything on the ATB Network via website or social media! Have a great morning/day/evening!

Welcome to another fun edition of the ATB Ravens Report featuring the official 53 man roster breakdown ahead of their Week One matchup vs the Las Vegas Raiders.

*Checks phone and realizes what day it is* Hold up! Wait you’re all telling me we’re almost a week away from our 1st game?! And the ATB RR roster breakdown is late being written & Published?! Ok, in my defense, work & prepping for vacation has my mind else where. You’d probably be in the same boat if your vacation started in 3 days.

Anyways, for those of you all who aren’t caught up, the Baltimore Ravens will travel to… cue the Elvis Presley song. No? Ok, fine, we’ll type it. “Viva! Viva Las Vegas!” Yes, that’s right. The Ravens at Raiders for the first Monday Night Football game of the season on Sept 13th at 8:15pm EST.

Now, I’ll expect this to be a fairly close game at start but with what we know of our team, things will get interesting in our favor to say the least as the game goes on.

Also before actually making in depth predictions we have to first look at the final 53 man roster first.

Here below will be a group of spread sheets put together by yours truly giving you the final 53 man roster. Would give you all the official depth chart off of the Baltimore Ravens’ website but at this time it hasn’t been updated yet.

Take a second and let that marinate. We have a nice active 53-man roster right here a lot of players on here that were expected to make the team & did, but there are a few that were kind of surprises. We’ll get into that here shortly, but before we do that let’s give a look at the Practice Squad & Injured Reserve lists.

Wait another second! Also note that below I didn’t include Co-Cap Anthony Levine Sr in here due to sheer potato brain, but they do have him on the Practice Squad regardless of what you see on the charts.

On this side we have the PS.

And here we have IR. Since you all had time to let everything sink in let’s finally get down to the details we wanna react to, so get your coffee, adult beverage, or juice box handy.

Let’s get the heartbreak out of the way first.

Where in the hell is FB2/RB4/TE8 Ben Mason on these lists?! *Cries from Tuesday until like yesterday* Oh yeah, he got signed by the NE Patriots on Wednesday. That’ll be good experience for the young player out of That Team Up North. With the system the coach Belichick & McDaniels run it’ll fit Mason well.

Most of the other cuts were as expected but…

Another major heartbreak that made me do multiple takes before the PS signees were announced was Co-Cap & Pernell McPhee. 2 key rotational Ravens that were highly important to not only the defense & special teams but also to the team’s voice/leadership. It was so reassuring to see them clear waivers and get picked back up. CoCap is still unfortunately on the PS which if I’m not mistaken can be a little stressful. Cause can’t teams poach off other another team’s PS? Anyways, McPhee thankfully was able to come back to the regular roster thanks to some of the IR folks.

Speaking of Injured Reserve…

What is 1st round pick WR Room X-Factor The Dark Knight aka Batman… I mean former MN Golden Gopher WR Rashod Bateman, doing on IR? Well don’t you all remember that he went down in training camp and had to have surgery? Yeah it makes sense, granted the Ravens will have to cut someone on the 53 when he comes back but either way he’ll be back and playing a good amount by week 5 or 6. Just have to be patient and wait for good news to return.

As far as Mr. Boykin’s situation, I’m still kinda confused on this but some times it takes year 3 or 4 to have that breakout year. And maybe in the final preseason game or in practice he went down with a bad injury that needed some time off. We’ll see what happens.

Now that’s over, lets get into some happy thoughts

Some are ecstatic over this fact, self included but we have a total of 11 Defensive Backs & 10 LB(Inside, Trad Outside, & EDGE) on there roster. It’s a great thing thinking about how much depth is in these rotations such as AA, Young, Stone, Washington, and can’t forget about OG Raven CB Jimmy Smith. These guys are great compliments to Humphrey, Peters, Clark, & Elliott. Bet you $5 Wink is foaming at the mouth with all the schemes he’s can execute with having all these guys.

And to add on to that last sentence, having a dominant LB corps with everything listed above is terrific. Ok, ok, I’ll pump the brakes… I understand that a lot of people are questioning the decision on keeping Welch or Ferguson on the active roster but let me tell you this. GET OFF THE CROSS, WE NEED THE WOOD! The Ravens have had minor instances where you can correctly challenge their “next man up” mentality but as of late for the most part, it’s worked. Sack Daddy is in for a blowout year coming up to establish where he belongs in the market & Welch just to make it known that he’s a good enough depth player for the Ravens.

Staying on Depth or there lack of. I’m glad to see the team keep B. Williams, Campbell, & Wolfe but all we have for backup is Justin Madubuike & Broderick Washington as official back up. Oh yeah, and Justin Ellis & Chris Smith(Who doubles as DE/EDGE) on the practice squad. Also can’t forget when Pancake Pat Ricard jumps in on defense but that still leaves the actual defensive front 2 to 6 players less in depth vs the rest of the team. Don’t get me wrong, I know the team runs a base 3-4 for the most part and relies on the LB/Secondary more, just being a OL/DL guy it hurts my heart a bit, but it’ll be alright. The Defense is stacked anyways.

Moving to the Offensive Side.

It wasn’t surprising seeing LJ8 as QB1 & TH2 aka Snoop as QB2. We all seen that coming, but what we didn’t necessarily see the well now RB2 contest to be so close. Well kinda, as most of us were lead to believe, Ty’Son Williams was going to be backing up/rotating with Gus Bus Edwards & Nate McCrary backing up Williams. That’s obviously not the case right now. John Harbaugh & Co decided to keep Justice Hill over McCrary. With no RB on the Practice Squad, it is very obvious that the coaching staff sees something in Hill that we can’t. Honestly it’s going to be interesting to see how this backfield runs without JK Dobbins as the starter due to a bad season ending injury.

Moving over real quick to the TE room, we once again have an official 4 Tight Ends on the roster and an official Fullback. This brings joy to the heart. The hunch that Josh Oliver was going to be the official TE3 and make the team was right. He is meant to be and play like a Raven. Backing up or possibly lining up in a 3 TE set behind the likes of Mark Andrews & Nick Boyle is what we like to see.

Kinda Reminds me of the Pitta, Daniels, & Gilmore or! Or! The Pitta, Boyle, & Maxx Williams days. Ah! Good times, good times.

But we have another name to throw in the mix. Eric Tomlinson. I’ll agree with the coaching staff that he did very well with the blocking scheme during the preseason which gives the Ravens another good or decent option with the Run Pass Option.

They’ve also elected to add Tony Poljan to the practice squad which is interesting to say the least. Moving on to the next topic…

My personal favorite, the big boys upfront!

Starting line up is still probably going to be as followed:

  • LT: Ronnie Stanley
  • LG: Ben Powers
  • C: Bradley Bozeman
  • RG: Kevin Zietler
  • RT: Alejandro Villanueva

Now this is a very complete set for the most part. Ben Powers obviously still being the question mark since you have Patrick Mekari as your versatile all around lineman. Ben Cleveland looking to make his name a household one and same with Philips at the LG or RG spots. Keeping Ealy & Smith on the Practice Squad was probably for insurance purposes but we’ll never know.

Also I’ll take this to the grave with me… having TCC on the roster is crucial because having a dedicated Center is extremely important! Yes we have Boze & Mekari but my boy TCC has proven that he can be ready to go and perform at a very high level when called upon.

Last minute notes & wrapping up.

So with everything being said be ready for this entire team to be ready to take on everything that’s thrown at them next Monday & all season long.

Josh Bynes was brought back for a 3rd stint to help the LB depth via the Practice Squad. TE Eli Wolf has filed a grievance against Baltimore claiming he should’ve been placed on IR vs being cut, I do believe he won the case. WR Devin Gray & Ravens reached an injury settlement that allowed him to become a FA. Lastly WR James Proche was fined by the NFL for Mossing an WFT Defender, I thought it was great but apparently the No Fun League didn’t.

Any whoot, that’s it until next time, and until then don’t forget to check out everything & everyone on the Around The Block Network. Follow us individually or the network itself on all forms of social media. Have a great night or day everyone!
